When Does a Complete HVAC Replacement Make Sense?
A complete replacement isn't always necessary. These are some of the situations where replacing the heating and cooling equipment together may be worth considering.
Both Systems Are Aging
When your furnace and AC are approaching the end of their useful service lives, replacing them together can simplify equipment matching and installation planning.
Frequent Repair Bills
Multiple expensive repairs over time may justify comparing the cost of continued service against a new system.
Uneven Temperatures
Rooms that never feel comfortable may point to sizing, airflow, ductwork, or equipment issues that should be evaluated together.
High Energy Usage
Newer equipment may use less energy than a much older system, but actual savings depend on efficiency, usage, and utility rates.
Major Equipment Failure
A failed compressor, leaking cooling coil, or major furnace failure may create an opportunity to evaluate both systems.
Changing Home Needs
Renovations, room additions, insulation changes, and new comfort requirements can affect the proper system configuration.
Your Complete HVAC Replacement Options
Different systems provide heating and cooling in different ways. We'll help you compare the options that make sense for your home.
Gas Furnace + Central AC
A conventional whole-home system combines a gas furnace for heating with a central air conditioner and indoor cooling coil. It can be a practical choice for homeowners who want to retain gas heating.
Compare Packages →All-Electric Heat Pump
A ducted heat pump provides both heating and cooling using electricity. In a suitable home, it may replace a traditional furnace and AC while continuing to use compatible central ductwork.
Explore Heat Pumps →Dual-Fuel System
Dual fuel pairs a compatible electric heat pump with a gas furnace. This gives homeowners another way to combine electric heating and cooling with gas heating capability.
Ask About Dual Fuel →Compare Our Complete HVAC System Packages
Compare five levels of combined furnace and air conditioning replacement, from essential equipment to premium modulating comfort systems.
A straightforward complete-system replacement with traditional single-stage heating and cooling.
Two-stage gas heating with upgraded thermostat, filtration, and longer labor coverage than Basic.
A higher-coverage package with two-stage gas heating, variable-speed heating operation as described in the price book, and a longer included service term.
High-efficiency gas furnace equipment, advanced heating operation, and long-term included service and labor coverage.
Our premium Complete Home Comfort package, pairing modulating high-efficiency heating with advanced cooling and air-treatment equipment.
Exact inclusions depend on equipment configuration and the written scope. Ductwork replacement, major electrical work, relocation, and other modifications may require separate pricing.
How Much Is a New HVAC System?
Your installation cost depends on system capacity, equipment options, existing ductwork, installation access, electrical requirements, and the entire scope of work needed.

Complete HVAC System Replacement in La Jolla, CA
Two heat pumps, two air handlers, complete ductwork replacement, and a Honeywell zoning system.
More Than a Typical HVAC Replacement
This La Jolla home needed a comprehensive heating and cooling upgrade. Maximum Comfort removed the existing outdoor condensers and replaced the system with two heat pumps and two indoor air handlers.
The project also included replacing all of the existing ductwork and installing a Honeywell zoning system to provide more control over how heating and cooling are distributed throughout the home.
Our team members Kevin, Chuy, Mitchell, Kavin, and Elkan all contributed to getting the project done.

Removing The Old Equipment
Replacing the HVAC system required some additional planning. Overhead power lines and the home's narrow street made using a crane, not an option.
Rather than closing the street, our team used a lift to safely lower the units from the roof.
Complete Ductwork Replacement & Zoning
The installation wasn't limited to the heat pumps themselves. We also replaced the home's ductwork and installed a Honeywell zoning system as part of the complete HVAC upgrade.
Proper airflow, ductwork and zoning are important to the overall installation. A properly designed air distribution system helps deliver conditioned air to the intended areas, while compatible zoning controls allow different parts of a home to have separate temperature settings.
Two Heat Pumps. One Complete Installation Plan.
Installing two outdoor heat pumps and two indoor air handlers required coordinating the equipment, ductwork, zoning controls, and site access as one project.
This is exactly why complete HVAC replacement is about more than selecting the outdoor unit. Indoor equipment, ducts, controls, and installation conditions all affect the final system design.

Watch the Project on YouTube →A complete HVAC replacement can involve far more than replacing an air conditioner or furnace. Ductwork, electrical requirements, zoning, access, and equipment compatibility all deserve consideration.
Whether you're choosing a conventional AC and gas furnace package, exploring dual fuel, or considering an all-electric heat pump installation, we'll evaluate the full system before recommending equipment.
Actual Maximum Comfort installation in La Jolla, California. This project used an all-electric heat pump configuration, rather than one of the standard gas-furnace-and-AC packages shown above. Every installation is evaluated individually.
HVAC Replacement Upgrades & Add-Ons
Beyond the main furnace and air conditioner, some homes benefit from improvements to ductwork, controls, filtration, and installation protection.
Ductwork & Airflow Improvements
Repair accessible leaking or damaged ducts that can affect equipment performance.
Add or replace duct runs when existing distribution needs improvement.
Some installations require new transitions, return-air connections, or other airflow modifications.
For suitable ducted systems, zoning controls may provide separate temperature management for areas of the home.

Maximum Comfort does not offer professional air duct cleaning.
Thermostats & Comfort Controls
Your Complete Home Comfort package includes thermostat equipment. The appropriate controller depends on the selected heating and cooling system.
Compatible controls may provide programmable schedules, remote access, and other convenience features.
A zoning system may be appropriate where a home requires independently controlled areas and has a compatible equipment and duct configuration.
Thermostat and zoning compatibility must be verified before installation.
Indoor Air Quality & Filtration
Higher-efficiency filtration options may be available, subject to airflow requirements.
Optional UV air-treatment equipment for compatible central HVAC systems.
In-duct air-treatment equipment that can be evaluated as an upgrade.
Already included in the Presidential Complete Home Comfort package. Ask about availability on other tiers.
Air-treatment products do not replace ventilation, filtration, or maintenance.
Electrical, Drainage & Equipment Protection
Optional protection against certain electrical surge events.
Drain safety switches, pumps, and additional drainage work as the installation requires.
Moving indoor or outdoor equipment may require electrical, gas, venting, ductwork, or structural changes beyond a standard replacement.
Certain protection and safety items are already included in the price-book package descriptions. Separate upgrade pricing only applies where the item is not already part of the proposal.
Maintenance & Warranty Protection
Our Complete Home Comfort packages list different parts, labor, and included service terms.
We also offer ongoing HVAC maintenance plans for qualifying equipment.
We will review how any added maintenance coverage works with service already included in your selected package.

HVAC Installation & Replacement FAQs
How much does a complete HVAC replacement cost in El Cajon?
The cost depends on system size, heating and cooling efficiency, installation complexity, ductwork, equipment accessibility, and any additional work required.
Use SurePrice on this page to explore an initial estimate, or schedule a free in-home consultation for a detailed written proposal.
Is it better to replace my AC and furnace together?
If both systems are aging or major repairs are needed, replacing them together may simplify installation and equipment compatibility. But a full replacement isn't always necessary if one system remains in good condition.
What does a complete HVAC system include?
A traditional complete HVAC system typically includes an outdoor AC condenser, indoor cooling coil, gas furnace, compatible thermostat, and necessary connections.
The exact equipment and scope depend on the selected package and your home's existing installation.
Can I replace just the AC or just the furnace?
Often, yes. Equipment compatibility and system condition need to be checked before recommending a partial replacement.
Explore AC-only installation and furnace-only installation .
Should I choose a gas furnace and AC or a heat pump?
Both can work well in El Cajon when properly selected and installed. A traditional system uses a gas furnace for heating and a separate AC for cooling. An all-electric heat pump can provide both heating and cooling.
We'll compare the equipment requirements, operating characteristics, and installation scope for your home.
What is a dual-fuel HVAC system?
Dual fuel pairs an electric heat pump with compatible gas furnace equipment. It provides an alternative to both conventional gas-furnace-plus-AC systems and fully electric heat pumps.
Maximum Comfort has a separate dual-fuel package lineup available for consideration.
Will I need new ductwork with a new HVAC system?
Not necessarily. Existing ducts may remain suitable, but damaged, leaking, or improperly sized ducts may need repair or replacement.
Our evaluation includes the condition and airflow requirements of the existing duct system.
Will a new HVAC system lower my energy bills?
A more efficient system may reduce energy consumption compared with substantially older equipment. Actual savings depend on equipment efficiency, home conditions, thermostat settings, utility rates, and usage.
Do you offer financing for complete HVAC replacement?
Financing options are available for qualifying customers, subject to lender terms and approval.
Visit our HVAC financing page for current information.
Are permits required for HVAC replacement in El Cajon?
Permit and inspection requirements depend on the project and jurisdiction. We review applicable requirements as part of installation planning.
How long does a complete HVAC installation take?
Timing depends on equipment accessibility, replacement scope, duct modifications, electrical work, and any required inspections. We'll explain the anticipated schedule in your written proposal.
Do you offer free HVAC replacement estimates?
Yes. Maximum Comfort provides free installation estimates for homeowners considering heating and cooling replacement.
